The focus for the expansion of the rail infrastructure is on the barrier-free expansion of stops and stations throughout the VBK and AVG network as well as network extensions through capacity increases, reactivations and the development or improvement of access to existing and planned residential developments. In addition, many small construction projects are regularly implemented by AVG and VBK for the maintenance and basic renewal of the rail infrastructure to ensure safe and disruption-minimised operations. Our infrastructure must be constantly expanded and optimised in order to meet daily requirements. The new construction of our main administration building alone, the "TuDu" in Karlsruhe, was a multi-million euro project that required several years of planning and realisation.
Our experts in the areas of construction and planning therefore have small and large projects under control and know what is important - be it the construction of a barrier-free tram stop, increasing capacity through double-track expansion or the comprehensive expansion of the West depot, which houses our e-bus fleet.
Current vacancies
One of the main tasks of our engineers is the planning and realisation of large and small infrastructure construction projects. This includes the construction and conversion of road and railway facilities in our rail network as well as structural engineering, such as workshop construction. Our experts take care of everything from the first sketch on paper to the concrete planning with the involvement of the relevant authorities and financial planning, right through to implementation and final acceptance. As a rule, the planning team's work ends once planning permission has been granted and financing has been secured, at which point it is the turn of the construction team.
In addition to ensuring safe and efficient operations, our infrastructure must also fulfil accessibility requirements. In addition, environmental and species protection requirements must be observed during the planning phase and noise emissions and vibrations must be reduced.
We also plan our own building infrastructure in-house - from the office building to the vehicle depot to the workshop hall. Our architects support the construction projects from start to finish, are involved in the tendering and awarding processes, co-ordinate the collaboration with all other authorities, planning offices and construction companies involved, monitor the budgets and are, of course, always very close to the construction sites.
Without technical draughtspeople and state-certified technicians, for example in the fields of construction, electrical engineering or surveying, we would not be able to realise our ambitious projects. Naturally, this also involves many tasks that are very railway-specific and for which we optimally prepare our specialists as part of our training programmes. For work on the track, such as surveying, our colleagues receive all the necessary safety instructions.
