Here we are

in use

From Menzingen in Kraichtal to Forbach in the northern Black Forest, from Heilbronn to the Karlsruhe Rhine and Rhineland-Palatinate - to ensure that our railways are always up and running quickly, our teams work at several locations across our entire operating area.

The "TuDu"

Our head office in Karlsruhe

On the corner of Tullastraße and Durlacher Allee, right next to our old headquarters, our new building was inaugurated in 2022 - the "TuDu". The ground floor houses a large service centre for our customers and the KVV experience world. The upper floors are where many of the threads of public transport in the region come together: Management, press, marketing, planning departments and auditing work here at the head office. Another popular meeting place is our newly built "Nahverzehr" cafeteria, which is also for the colleagues at the Gerwigstraße depot, which is only a few minutes' walk away.

The Gerwigstraße depot, also known as Betriebshof Ost, is one of our largest depots. It is used not only for trains and buses to be maintained and cleaned here, but also by the colleagues in the control centre for all rail and bus transport in the KVV area. We train new drivers in the training rooms and driving simulators. The head office in TuDu - and the popular "Nahverzehr" canteen - is just a few hundred metres away.

West depot

Depot & Workshop, Research & Development

More than 400 VBK and AVG employees work at the West depot, not far from Karlsruhe's Rhine harbour - primarily in the maintenance of rail and motor vehicles, but also in the areas of development, planning, standardisation and administration. The older part of the West depot, also known as BHW1 for short, consists of ten buildings covering around 110,000 square metres. In the coming years it will be extensively renovated, expanded and remodelled to make it fit for the future. In October 2024, the new BHW2 was inaugurated within walking distance of the old site. Among other things, a state-of-the-art car wash ensures clean vehicles, and the new e-bus fleet is charged and serviced there for its next deployment.

The West depot can be reached by tram line 5 and a staff shuttle. There are also plenty of parking spaces for employees, as well as spacious break rooms and a canteen.

Washing, checking, repairing - and developing and testing new ideas. The largest depot of VBK and AVG is located at the Rhine harbour.

Maybachstrasse

The railway maintenance depot in Durlacher Maybachstraße was inaugurated in 2018 and is a central base for supplying the inner-city rail network and the surrounding area with the main areas of construction technology, electrical engineering and traction current supply. Around 200 employees work at the site. This is where the field operations start in order to maintain tracks, signalling systems, stops and overhead lines and to be on site quickly in the event of a fault. This is also where our electronics technicians and other specialised tradespeople start if there are any faults on the lines in the urban area. The site, which covers more than 40,000 square kilometres, houses various workshops, offices, depots for special vehicles and external storage facilities.

Our Ettlingen depot is located in the immediate vicinity of the city railway station and just a few minutes' walk from the city centre. There is a fuelling station and depot for our diesel buses, cleaning for our light rail vehicles, workshop for minor repairs - the depot covers important tasks with around 100 employees. A dedicated service group for our stops in this area is also stationed in Ettlingen.

Forbach railway maintenance depot

Forbach railway maintenance depot

Our AVG site in Forbach is located 50 kilometres south of Karlsruhe in the Murg Valley in the northern Black Forest. The tasks of the 25 or so employees at the railway maintenance depot include the maintenance and repair of the Murg Valley line between Rastatt and Freudenstadt. The train drivers on this line also start and finish their shifts there.

Menzingen railway maintenance depot

Menzingen railway maintenance depot

At the Menzingen site, 35 employees ensure that the trains are always maintained and cleaned. Switch fitters and electricians also travel to the surrounding area from there to check on the track and repair any damage. The site covers a total of 16,000 square metres and includes an administration building with offices and recreation rooms, a depot for light rail vehicles with an adjacent locomotive workshop and a petrol station. The site is also the final stop on the S32 and is therefore optimally connected to the public transport network, but can also be easily reached by car.

Heilbronn depot

Heilbronn depot

Over the next three years, a new depot will be built on the station forecourt in Heilbronn, which will include a vehicle hall for repairs and maintenance, a car wash as well as administration and training rooms. The drivers will use the depot until its planned completion in 2027, which starts its shifts from Heilbronnstaff and rest rooms in the city's main railway station. The nearby training centre is where prospective train drivers learn for their exams. The site has currently around 50 employees and will continue to grow and fulfil additional tasks.
