When the new headquarters of VBK | AVG | KVV was built, the old canteen building on the Durlacher Allee site was also extensively refurbished. Lots of light, open rooms, modern air conditioning and soundproof ceilings now provide a pleasant environment for a relaxing break. "Even when it's really busy at lunchtime, the atmosphere at NahVerzehr is always calm and relaxed," says Constantin Ulbert. The chef and master chef have been responsible for company catering at VBK | AVG | KVV since 2021. "Our team has the best conditions here to do what we really enjoy as chefs: offering high-quality food, freshly prepared and served every day, often right in front of the guest," he says.
The cooks in the company restaurant have to satisfy many different tastes at different times of the day. Of course, anyone who starts their shift at four in the morning or does physical labour has a different appetite to their colleagues in the office. "We offer light meals, salads and of course vegetarian or vegan dishes, but also the canteen classics such as schnitzel and co." What the different dishes have in common: "We attach great importance to quality, regionality and fresh preparation. We source our raw meat from a butcher in the neighbourhood. Of course we pound and bread the schnitzel ourselves. You can taste the difference to the usual convenience products," says Ulbert.
The "NahVerzehr" right next to TuDu, the head office, is not only popular with the staff of VBK | AVG | KVV, who dine here at reduced prices and simply pay for their meals using their employee card. "Many guests also come to us every day from the companies and offices in the neighbourhood." VBK runs the "Kantine West" canteen in the Rhine harbour, which also cooks for the staff and welcomes external guests from the neighbouring companies at lunchtime. Here we attach great importance to a varied breakfast menu and home cooking as a source of energy for the hard work in the workshops - to suit the tastes of our colleagues on site.
Most dishes are also available to take away - not in disposable boxes, but in deposit boxes. "Sustainability is important to us! In the preparation too, of course," emphasises Ulbert. We therefore cook in several stages in order to keep the quality high and adapt the offer to demand during the course of serving - this not only tastes better, but also prevents too much being left over. After all, we do not want to waste any food."
The catering team also takes care of catering for events or meetings in the building and provides a modern conference range - always according to customer requirements. Canteen manager Constantin Ulbert has high standards: "We want everyone to enjoy their food!"
